ART-on-a-BOX is a campaign that primarily aims on raising Amsterdam’s profile as a container port. In order to grow continuously, the Port of Amsterdam has to think of a gimmick of some sort to attract more container ships. After all, more and more cargo is being transported in containers. With this, the idea of ART-on-a-BOX was born. Containers were painted in various eye-catching designs so that it could attract more shipping goods across the globe. And it doesn’t stop there. These one of a kind container boxes could also help Amsterdam showcase their art and culture from coast to coast.
The site was developed using Drupal 6.x CMS. It allows users to easily add, update, and organize a wide variety of content. That means the user doesn’t have to have a good knowledge of HTML to be able to maximize the features of the site. Google Maps was also integrated to the site. Each of the container boxes has its corresponding coordinates and each of them is shown on Google Map. There’s also a picture slide show gallery feature done with Javascript. It takes all uploaded photos and automatically makes a slideshow from them.
